Top Tips for Go Ape! Forest Segway

Segway

Before your Go Ape! Forest Segway adventure, you need to have a good read of the following information and advice. And make sure your tribe gets to grips with it too. Saves any unexpected blips on the day.

Arriving on time

We don’t like to clock-watch at Go Ape! Forest Segway, but it’s vital you get here on time for the start of your session. If you arrive late and miss your session, or cancel on the day, we’ll still charge you full price. Arriving on time means no one gets stressed out or disappointed. Factor in extra time for driving through the forest, parking and rocking up at the cabin, especially on busy days when you’re more likely to get stuck in traffic.

Check you can Go Ape Forest Segway?

There’s a few things: The minimum Weight is 7 stone and the maximum Weight 19.5 stone. Child Riders 10 – 15 year olds (min 7 stone) must be supervised by an adult (Ratio 1 Adult to 3 under 16 years). Youth Riders 16 – 17 years can ride unsupervised but can not supervise others. Adult Rider can ride and supervise as detailed.

How long will I be out on a segway?

Your experience with us lasts an hour, and that includes a brief bit of safety and instruction before you head out with us.

Wearing the right gear

Go Ape! Forest Segway is an outdoor activity so come in clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dirty or even slightly damaged. And dress for the weather, even if that means sticking a finger in the air and expecting the worst. An absolute no-no is open-toed or slip-on footwear. Long hair has to be tied back, waists covered and body piercings removed or taped over.

Getting fed and watered

You can get a light snack at the Cafes in the forest. We don’t operate these, so opening times may vary. Best to check online first. Feel free to bring a picnic to the forest (don’t forget your blanket!)

Preparing for the worst

We do everything we can to avoid it, but sometimes we may need to close the Go Ape! Forest Segway course at short notice because of bad weather (lightning, high winds, snow or ice), which makes the course unsafe. If this happens we’ll try and contact you, which is why we ask for your mobile phone number when you book. If we haven’t had a chance to inform you of a closure before you arrive, the course manager will update you on likely re-opening times.

Finding us and parking the car

Take a look here to see how to find us.

Parking costs are £2 – £10 (depending on how long you stay and the time of year). Parking is additional to your booking. This is because car park is managed by the forest owner (The Forestry Commission), not us.

One other note on finding us – because our location is out in the sticks, directions by postcode aren’t always accurate. So don’t rely totally on satellite navigation. Best to check before you head out, and to cross reference your route with our map.

Most importantly, enjoy your segway experience.

Is there a package to do the go ape tree stuff and the segway together?

  • Cheryl Prax

Love those Segways! I first tried them on a small course weaving round rubber tyres but to try this through the forest must be awesome! Can’t wait!

  • Ben

Please can you let me know how long the Segway briefing takes and how long you have on the Segway after the briefing.
    Many thanks, Ben

Hey, your whole Forest Segway experience will take about an hour. You’ll spend about 15 – 20 minutes being briefed and then 40 – 45 minutes out enjoying the segway. Have fun, The Go Ape Team

Hi, is this a tour or can you go out and do what you want in the forest?

    Thanks

It’s a tour with an instructor. They’ll take you to see the best bits of the forest. The Go Ape Tribe.
