What is GoApe?
Go Ape is all about getting out, having fun and being adventurous. But there’s just a few things you’ll need to know before you head to the forest.
Before you Go Ape
Minimum Age – 10yrs
Minimum Height – 1.4m (4ft7″)
Maximum weight – 20.5 stones (130kg)
If you’re under 10, don’t forget you can still enjoy our Go Ape! Tree Top Junior Adventure.
On the Course
There’s 14 participants per session. But you can do the course with your (pri)mates, don’t worry! If you are going with more people; you can simply book more sessions to cater for the number of people you are going with.
At Go Ape we use harnesses to make sure you’re nice and safe throughout your outdoor adventure. The maximum waist measurement of the harness is 110cm and the leg loops (which go around the top of your thighs) is 70cm.
Supervision Ratios
Under 18yr olds must be supervised by a participating adult.
One participating adult can supervise EITHER two under 18 year olds (where one or both children are 10-15 years old) OR up to five 16-17 year olds. Participating adults may not supervise from the ground.
Fitness
Doing Go Ape does require a degree of physical fitness but if you can climb up a rope ladder you should be fine.
Pregnancy
The Go Ape policy is that we recommend that pregnant women do not take part on the course. However, we do not want to be discriminatory and ultimately the choice is yours. We are not medical experts and therefore suggest that you seek advice from your doctor on the matter. For more information on this have a read of our frequently asked questions.
Duration
The course takes approximately 1.5 hours – 3 hours to complete. That includes your safety briefing. It all depends on how speedy you are, how busy the course is and who you’ve got in your tribe.
Belongings
Most Go Ape sites will provide storage facilities for your belongings at the cabin. You may take cameras on the course as long as they are secured to you and tucked away to prevent them from getting caught (you could always buy a lanyard from us for £2).
Spectators
You may have as many people as you like watching you going ape through the trees. They will not be able to enter the course, but can watch, take pictures and laugh from the paths below (Restrictions apply at Woburn Safari Park).

Opening Times
Opening times vary at each of our sites. We close our Go Ape courses during December and January, partly because of the winter weather and partly so we can maintain the courses to our high Go Ape standards. Opening times vary on daylight hours – some open at 8am in the summer for those really keen Gorillas! Please check availability here for full details of the opening times on your chosen date at your selected Go Ape site.
Safety in the Trees
When you’re up in the trees and walking across a wire the thickness of one of your fingers (with your harness fully attached!), you need to know you’re safe.
Before you head out onto the course, you’ll be given a half-hour safety briefing by one of our qualified experienced instructors.
Here you’ll learn and try out the obstacles at low levels, and get to grips with the equipment. It’s not complicated, but its important stuff and it will give you confidence to enjoy your time up in the trees.
After your training we won’t supervise you on a one to one basis. You’ll be responsible for yourselves on the course and for any under 18′s that you have signed for. There will always be an instructor patrolling the forest floor.
We have 28 courses all over the country for you to enjoy and we’ve put together a whole heap of frequently asked questions if you need to find out a bit more about us.
And we have more outdoor activities for you to enjoy.
