Days Out in Southampton

Go Ape in Southampton is both a wholesome and thrilling way to spend a morning or afternoon. If you're in this neck of the woods and find yourself at a loose end either before or after your monkey business, we've kindly put together a little list of suggestions of things to do in Southampton with your tribe. Go Ape is less than four miles from the centre of Southampton, and there's plenty to see and do in this bustling city.

WHERE TO GO?

MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK

If you're a lover of all things animal, this is the place for you. This hands-on farm allows you to experience milking a cow, holding a newborn bunny and bottle-feeding a tiny lamb. Old McDonald's Farm becomes a reality here a whole host of farmyard animals will greet you on arrival. Be prepared, though your heart will melt.

WHAT TO DO?

VISIT OLD TOWN

Said to have more hidden treasures than any city in the UK, Southampton's Old Town is situated just south of the centre. If you're looking for sightseeing opportunities, you've come to the right place. There are organised guided walks on a variety of themes here (Titanic, Jane Austen, Perils and Plots to name but a few) lasting around two hours and priced at just £4. Strolling along this well-preserved, third longest stretch of medieval town walling in England, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time. Don't forget your camera!

WHERE TO EAT?

FAT FIG

Famous around Southampton for its homemade food and reasonable prices, Fat Fig is a Greek restaurant that makes the ideal lunch option. Specialities? The obvious moussaka and kebabs. However, it also features lovingly-prepared specials such as barbecued trout. All dishes are made using locally sourced produce and the atmosphere is unpretentious, friendly and relaxed. Perfect if you fancy a cheap but mouth-wateringly delicious lunch. And, after swinging around the trees all morning at Go Ape, you will have certainly worked up an appetite.

AND SOMETHING FOR A RAINY DAY?

SEACITY MUSEUM

Located in the centre of the city's emerging Cultural Quarter, SeaCity is a state-of-the-art, interactive museum, housed in a Grade II listed building. The museum takes you through Southampton's connection with the sea, focusing on the people who have travelled in and out of the city through the centuries, with a particular focus on the city's fascinating Titanic heritage.
