Crathes

Go Ape Crathes Castle is in the heart of Aberdeenshire. The stunning landscape offers you everything from mountain to sea and against a backdrop which delivers big, (we’ve gone big too on this Treetop Challenge.)

In the grounds of this 16th century castle we’ll take you deep into the forest. This course will push you as you navigate your way from tree to tree. The longest zip is a wind-rushing 125 metres and look out for the hair-raising skateboard zip line.

Your next adventure in scotland

The winding drive up towards the castle sets the scene for this stunning location. It’s our most northerly site, 40 minutes from Aberdeen.

Once you’ve climbed down from the trees and caught your breath you can explore the 16th-century tower house, with its intricate maze of turrets, towers, oak panels and painted ceilings.

There are a number of walks with different difficulty ratings and distances to get you out and about in this stunning landscape.

Wildlife fans can enjoy some nature spotting with a walk along the Coy Burn where they may see buzzards, herons and kingfishers.

There’s a Wild Wood Adventure Play area for the children with the Green Lady’s Tower, a rock face challenge and a zip wire to zoom between the trees (please note this is free for National Trust for Scotland members and children under the age of 4 and £3 per child for non-members).

Once you’ve worked up a thirst and a hearty appetite head over to the Courtyard Café which serves hot drinks, lunches and home-baked treats.

  • Very very good. Relaxed and well delivered induction. Treating people of all ages with respect. Safety comes first.

  • Great challenge, great fun. Everyone should try it once.

    Yvonne McMillan

  • The guys were fantastic at taking time to explain how everything worked and were on-hand if you needed them. I was responsible for a 14-year-old and after the induction I had no worries at all about his or my safety. The course is great with loads of variations for getting between the trees and we're looking forward to getting back for another go. Highly recommended.

  • Amazing as usual. Me and my partner enjoyed this adventure immensely

    Machaela Lawson

  • Great staff and a good laugh. Not as big or as challenging as the Aberfoyle one (if I remember), but still top notch.
