Take adrenaline, for example. This hormone plays a key role in our so-called fight-or-flight responses it's pumped around our bodies whenever we're put in pulse-racing situations.
Remember how the last time you did something 'scary' your palms started to sweat?
Remember how your knees wobbled, your teeth chattered, and your stomach felt like it was being churned at full speed inside a washing machine?
But can you also remember how you felt overcoming that scary thing?
How you felt that burst of energy travel throughout your entire body, from your head down your toes? How you started to shiver, even though you weren't cold? All of these things you felt are down to adrenaline!
Adrenaline is that surge of energy that increases our heart rate and blood pressure, and heightens our senses. And you might not know this, but although the hormone is released in response to stressful situations, adrenaline rushes can actually be good for us.
Adrenaline can boost alertness and awareness, and improve memory and cognitive function. It can also block feelings of pain, help out our immune system and give us increased strength for the duration of the 'rush'!
Of course, to experience an adrenaline rush, you need to leave the confines of your comfort zone and step out into the unknown. Besides, comfort zones are restrictive and boring they stop us from living life adventurously (which is our very motto). Boo!
