First time at Go Ape?

Here’s your guide to planning the perfect family day out

Forest adventure first-timer? You’re in the right place! A day out at one of our 37 UK locations in forests, country parks and city green spaces is a great way to spend time together as a family and get out in nature. From young kids to older teens, we’ve got action-packed fun to suit everyone.

Picking your experience

Our high ropes courses have varying difficulty levels so younger adventurers can build their head for heights step-by-step.

Treetop Adventure is our entry-level high ropes course, great for ages 4 and up, and a good introduction to our high ropes. Parents can join their little explorers as they take on wobbly crossings and swooping zip wires for a confidence-building day of fun. Minimum height is 1 metre.

Treetop Adventure Plus is our mid-level high ropes experience, a great option for more confident children aged 6 and up. This will either be an extension to our Treetop Adventure, or a whole separate course that’s a little higher from the ground with slightly more challenging crossings and heaps more excitement. Minimum height is 1.2 metres.

Treetop Challenge is our classic high ropes course, available across 34 sites and brilliant fun for adults, teens and confident children over 1.4m tall. Take on incredible ziplines and jaw-dropping obstacles for a truly memorable family day. Minimum age 10 years old (depending on safety system).

Challenge Plus is our most demanding high ropes course - tougher crossings and bigger thrills.

Perfect for brave teens and adults looking to test their limits. Available at Cockfosters, Sherwood, and Thetford.

Minimum age 10, minimum height 1.4m. One adult (18+) must join and supervise up to two children aged 10–15.

Nets Adventure is two hours of high energy fun with no harnesses. Explore tree-high nets linked by walkways, featuring inflatable balls and super slides that lead back to the forest floor. Minimum age is 1 years old.

We also offer forest floor adventures for those who prefer to keep their feet closer to the ground! From Mini Land Rovers for younger adventurers to Forest Segways, there’s something to suit everyone.

Preparing for the day

The better you prepare, the better your adventure!

  • Clothes: Wear comfortable clothes you can move around in, and for our high ropes courses something that covers your midriff so our harnesses can go over the top. Be warned, your clothes may get a little muddy!
  • Shoes: Wear close-toe and close-heel shoes, so no sandals, flip flops or Crocs.
  • Gloves: We recommend gloves, even in good weather, to help you hold the ropes. You can add these to your order when you book online or buy them at the cabin.
  • Weather: Bring rain gear or even a change of clothes in wet weather, and suncream and water when it’s sunny.
  • Snacks: Some of our locations have lovely cafés and restaurants nearby or wonderful spots for picnics. We recommend bringing something for a snack right after your adventure, as getting out in the trees is hungry work!
  • Water is a good idea too, though most of our experiences have water points.
  • Phone pouch: You can add this when you book if you want to keep your phone on you, including to get some great snaps for the family photo album!

On the day

We recommend arriving at least fifteen minutes before your booked activity time. Check the location page for your adventure for directions by public transport or car. You’ll need to find out cabin first, there’ll be signs to help you.

Once at the cabin our staff will check all your Risk Acknowledgements are signed (we’ll email this beforehand, you can use the same link for everyone). They’ll show you the nearest toilets and then to the safety briefing area.

All our experiences start with a safety briefing. For our high ropes you’ll be shown how to safely clip on and off, and practice doing so before starting the course. Similarly, our Forest Segways have a practice area while you get to grips with steering. Our supportive staff will help you with any questions and make sure your whole family feels confident stepping out on their adventure.

You’ll then start your experience, either for the timed duration for Nets Adventure, Segways and Axe Throwing, or the length of the course for our high ropes. Depending on the location, the high ropes will either be a series of sections one after the other, or a central point you return to and start the next section. Our experiences usually have water points throughout, and there will be staff walking around below who you can ask for help from. If you decide you want to head back early, they’ll show you where to go. Our harnesses also have a whistle if you need to get their attention quickly.
