Great Days Out Set in the Beautiful Northumberland Countryside

Our first adventure set in the grounds of a magnificent country house hotel, Matfen Hall. If you’re looking for adventure days out in the North East, we’re nestled within one of the UK’s most un-spoilt areas of natural beauty.

Whilst enjoying our Tree Top Adventure you will get to appreciate the views all from the trees, taking on high ropes and zip wires.

We’ll brief you for safety before you fly down our zip-wires, leap off our Tarzan Swing and tackle our crossings whilst enjoying some of Britain’s most breathtaking scenery.

Lap up some of the finest scenery in Matfen’s 300 acres of historic parkland and enjoy a great day out near Newcastle.

From Newcastle on the A69, turn off for Heddon-on-the-Wall and turn right again for the B6318 at the Three Tuns Pub, follow this for about 6 miles. After the Robin Hood Inn you will see signs for Matfen and Matfen Hall Country House Hotel, turn right and after 2 miles you’ll see signs for the Golf Driving Range and Go Ape! on your right.

From Carlisle/Hexham on the A69, turn left at Corbridge for the A68, heading North to Jedburgh. At the roundabout turn right (3rd exit) onto the B6318 and you will start to see signs for Matfen Hall Country House Hotel. After 4 miles turn left and after 2 miles you’ll see signs for the Golf Driving Range and Go Ape! on your right.

Many satnavs will take you to a farm- if the track you follow after turning off the road hasn’t got woodland on your right and a golf course to the left, you are in the wrong place!

Feedback from Newcastle

Take a look at what some of our tribe have said about their time in the forest. It’s always good to hear it straight from the Gorilla’s mouth (…and we’re proud to say it’s totally unedited!)And why not have a peek at what people are saying about us on Trip Advisor.

Great overall experience. Some scary bits but excellent safety gear so just go for it. Stepping off into air for the zip wires is my highlight

I was a non-participant and was warned that it was not really a spectator sport so I was well prepared, However it was a really good chance of getting some photos of my kids (well they are 18 and 21 no not really kids) My 21 year old daughter is really scared of heights and she wanted to do this to push herself and I must say she did complete the extreme course and pushed herself to the liimit. My 18year old son is very quite and unassuming and it was very good to see him out of his comfort zone, both had a fantastic time and both will be looking at doing it again (possibly without parents with them) excellent staff and safety briefing. Well done to you all.

The staff at Matfen were very helpful and friendly. they were extremely patient when one of the group members were scared and were very encouraging to them. the course it self was very well laid out allowing the even more adventurous apes to do a harder way round yet at the same time giving an options to go the easier way round. We had a fabulous time and hope to be back at one of your branches round the country!! thank you so much for a wonderful time!!
