Do supervising adults need to buy a ticket?

A supervising adult will only need a ticket if they are participating in the activity.

Some of our activities do require adult supervision in the treetops. Depending on the age of the children you are supervising, it is possible to supervise from the ground if you prefer. We recommend participating with your children so you can enjoy your adventure together, especially if it's their first time or they are feeling a little nervous.

Supervision requirements can be found on the location and activity pages of the website.

Should I eat before my adventure?

Our activities are robust and physically demanding, so please ensure you have had enough food and drink to fuel your adventure.

Where can I sign my waiver?

Once you have made a booking you will be sent an email with a personalised link to sign your online waiver. If somebody else booked for you, please ask them to pass along the link.

Every participant must complete a waiver. Children under the age of 16 years must have their waiver completed by an adult aged 18 or over that will remain present throughout their activity. In some cases that adult must also participate in the activity.

Please make sure that your online waiver is completed before arrival for a smoother check-in.

What is the difference between the recommended age and the minimum age for an activity?

    • Minimum Age: This is the absolute youngest age that participants must be to take part in a specific Go Ape activity. It’s a mandatory requirement set for safety reasons.
    • Recommended Age: This suggests the age at which we believe most participants will have the best experience, based on physical ability, maturity, and the challenge level of the course. The recommended age is not mandatory but serves as guidance to ensure participants are fully prepared for the adventure.

Can mixed groups of different ages participate together at Go Ape?

Yes, mixed groups of different ages can participate together at Go Ape. Our courses are designed to accommodate a wide range of ages, allowing families and friends of all ages to enjoy the experience together.

    What should I wear?

We recommend you wear gloves for comfort. Bring your own or pre-order our recommended gloves and collect from our cabin.

We suggest that you wear something you don’t mind getting grubby. Dress for the weather so bring along a mac if the forecast is for rain.

You need to make sure you have the correct footwear which can’t fall off easily. This should offer protection to your toes and heel. Please do not wear sandals, flip flops, Crocs, slip-off or high heel shoes.

Your stomach area will need to be covered to prevent the harness rubbing, and long hair must be tied back to prevent entanglements in the equipment.

    What happens in bad weather?

Go Ape is an excellent wet weather activity. Our courses are substantially sheltered from rain and wind by the trees themselves so as long as you’re appropriately dressed for the weather you should still have great memories of your experience. The course remains open in all weathers, except thick ice, thunderstorms and gales. Rain makes the course muddier than usual – which can add to the fun, but you might want dry clothes to change into for the journey home.

If we have to close for unsafe weather conditions, we will offer you a refund, credit note or reschedule your booking. If unsafe weather is forecasted we will aim to make the decision as early as possible, and will do our best to contact you to try and save you a wasted journey.

Why does Go Ape charge a booking fee?

We charge a booking fee to cover the costs associated with processing bookings efficiently and securely. This non-refundable fee covers various operational expenses, including website maintenance, hosting fees, payment processing fees, customer support services, and technology investments aimed at improving your booking experience.

Why is it cheaper to book online?

Booking online is more cost-effective due to streamlined automation processes that eliminate the need for human interaction. Whilst we will always have humans available to look after you, we encourage customers to utilise our live chat function on our website. Our friendly customer care team is available to answer any questions you may have before proceeding with your online booking. This ensures a smooth and convenient experience for our customers whilst still benefiting from the cost savings associated with online bookings.

Participants will have one hour in the tree tops but please allow 2 hours for the complete experience which will include check-in, harnessing and safety briefing. Under 6's must have a supervising adult up on the course with them. We also recommend children under 1.2m tall have an adult with them on the course in case they need any help.

Supervision rules and participant restrictions vary depending on the adventure you choose and the Go Ape location. Check out our Locations page and click through to the site you wish to visit. Then when you click through on your chosen adventure you’ll find the information you need.

Do you have a minimum/maximum weight and age for riding Segways?

All participants must weigh a minimum of 7 stone or 45kg. This is to enable the participant to be able to safely operate the Segway which is controlled through shifting your body weight. Anyone who does not meet this requirement may not be able to safely stop the machine which would put themselves and others at risk.

Where is my nearest Go Ape?

With 37 sites across Britain there is a Go Ape site within reach.
Head to our Locations page to explore our courses or find your nearest site by searching using your postcode.

Can I do Go Ape if I'm pregnant?

The Go Ape policy strongly recommends pregnant women do not take part on the course. Our adventures are robust physical activities which involve a degree of risk. However, we do not want to be discriminatory and ultimately the choice is yours. We are not medical experts and therefore suggest you seek advice from your doctor on the matter. If you decide to proceed, you will need to declare that you are pregnant and sign a disclaimer stating that: “I have made Go Ape aware that I am pregnant and as a result Go Ape has recommended that I do not take part on the course. However, I have decided to take part on the course in the full knowledge that this may incur risks to my unborn child”.

Do you offer a group discount?

We have a dedicated events team who are here to help with larger groups such as school trips or company team building. Please visit our Groups page to find out more and book.

Do you have a maximum size for your harnesses?

At Go Ape we want everyone who wishes to take part in a Go Ape adventure. On treetop activities we operate with a variety of harnesses, as we believe they each best suit our needs and the health and safety requirements. The size of these harnesses dictates the size of customer that we can safely allow to participate on any of our activities.

More information about harness sizes can be found in our Harness/PPE - Don't Fit Can't Go Policy on our Terms and Policies page.

Do we need to book an adult to supervise?

Please check the participation requirements for each activity at the specific Go Ape location you are attending, as some activities require on-course supervision. If you need to supervise from the course, you will need to book a place. However, for activities where supervision from the ground is possible, you don't need to book.

    I might need additional support

At Go Ape, we welcome everyone. However, whilst our courses are designed to be accessible to most people, they do offer a degree of physical and mental challenge. For some, this may mean that additional equipment, adjustments to our training, and/or levels of supervision will be required for safe participation. For others, the risks of injury may still be too great despite taking such additional measures, preventing their use of the course. Please read the additional information available on our Accessibility page and call our booking team to discuss requirements before booking your adventure so we can ensure you will be safe and have the best experience possible. It may be useful to book a quieter time of the day to ensure you are not put under unnecessary pressure by other participants on the day. We can help with all this.

What if I'm afraid of heights!

A fear of heights is both common and natural. Go Ape can help you overcome your lifelong fear. We are proud to have helped hundreds of thousands of people conquer their fear of heights.

We recommend you book at quieter times when we can offer you more support, and when fewer people will be on the course with you. Let your instructor know and she or he will be able to give you more attention. Why not give it a try - you will surprise yourself!

Can I use a One4all gift card to pay for my Go Ape adventure?

Yes, you can use a One4All Gift Card to purchase your Go Ape adventure. At checkout, enter the gift card's details into the card payment details section. For more support, please visit the One4All help page.

Are carer's tickets/discounts available for Go Ape adventures?

If a supervising adult is required to participate under our activity restrictions, please call us on 01603 895500, and we will apply an accessibility discount of 10% for you.

Why does the price of the high ropes activities change by day?

The pricing for our high ropes activities fluctuates based on demand, which is a common practice in the leisure industry. Quieter days are offered at lower prices, while peak days have higher pricing to reflect increased demand.

  • Questions about your activity

Can I keep items in my pockets on the high ropes course?

Due to the nature of our treetop activities, we strongly recommend that pockets must be emptied to prevent the risk of dropping any personal belongings while on the course. Some courses are built over a mixture of vegetation, streams, and in some locations even lakes and ponds. There is therefore a risk of personal loss if items are dropped into areas that cannot safely be reached by foot.

Can I wear a bumbag or backpack?

Bumbags and backpacks aren't permitted on the course as they may increase your risk of injury or get in the way of your harness. A lanyard and phone pouch can be purchased online at the time of booking or, on the day from the Go Ape cabin (subject to availability.) If you need to carry any medication with you, please let a member of staff know who will be able to provide you with a pouch which can be attached to your harness.

We recommend that non-essential items and bags are left in your car. Small items such as car keys can be left in the Go Ape cabin.

How long do Treetop Adventure and Treetop Adventure Plus take?

Participants will have one hour in the tree tops but please allow 2 hours for the complete experience which will include check-in, harnessing and safety briefing. Under 6's must have a supervising adult up on the course with them. We also recommend children under 1.2m tall have an adult with them on the course in case they need any help.

It's going to be very warm on the day of my visit. How should I prepare?

We have produced this handy guide on staying safe on a visit to Go Ape on a hot summer's day. Read the guide here.

Will I be wearing a helmet?

You will only have to wear a helmet if you're participating on Forest Segway. Go Ape has consulted widely whilst risk assessing the benefits or disadvantages of participants wearing helmets on our high ropes experiences. We have concluded that the disadvantages of participants wearing helmets outweigh the minimal benefits, and the Health and Safety authorities have agreed with our approach.

Do I need to be fit and strong?

Go Ape designs its adventures to be as accessible as possible. Our high ropes courses require a degree of physical fitness but if you can climb up a rope ladder you will be fine. Our Forest Segways require you to stand for an hour on a moving platform and require similar energy as riding a bicycle. Nets courses have a lot of bounce and therefore require similar energy to a bouncy castle.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Our staff at Go Ape are awesome, but not medically qualified, therefore cannot assess the capacity of participants to undertake a course. It remains your responsibility to undertake such an assessment prior to use of the course. We advise you to visit the course prior to booking to undertake your own risk assessment.

When do I need to arrive?

Please allow plenty of time to park your car and use the toilets (as usage restrictions may be in place). You should aim to be at the cabin 15 minutes before your booked time. We will be operating a card only policy at the Go Ape cabin but some parking facilities may still be taking cash so do make sure that you bring some with you.

    Can I bring a camera?

Please do! You’re going to want to capture these moments to share. We do ask that phones taken to height are attached to you to minimise the risk of dropping them. Our courses pass over paths and playgrounds so it's important that we are thinking of others. Phone pouches with a lanyard are available to buy from our cabins for £6, but used at your own risk.

If you'd like to take a camera, please discuss with your instructor on arrival to make sure it is not too bulky and can be safely attached. Go Ape will not be responsible for any damage sustained to personal equipment.

Can spectators watch and take pictures from the forest floor?

Yes, absolutely. The only adventure with restrictions is Woburn Safari Park, which allows just one onlooker. All other tree top courses allow as many fans as you’d like to cheer you on.

Can I bring or hire a bike?

Most Go Ape locations are fantastic places to enjoy a cycle, and many also offer bike hire. At Alice Holt and Black Park, the cycle hire is called Forest Biking and is operated by Go Ape. You can reserve a bike and cycle extras at these locations when you book your Go Ape adventure online.

Go Ape locations including Bracknell, Dalby Forest, Glentress Forest, Grizedale and Haldon Forest, are well known cycling destinations. They feature a mixture of family cycling trails and more extreme routes for experienced mountain bikers. More information about local routes, cycling restrictions and cycle hire not operated by Go Ape can be found on our landlords’ websites.

Please note that Go Ape cannot take responsibility for your bike whilst your participate in our activities.

    Can I bring my dog?

Most Go Ape locations are a great destination to bring your dog. We recommend visiting the landlord’s website beforehand to find information about restrictions and guidance. Please be aware that unfortunately dogs are not able to visit our location at Woburn Safari Park.

Dogs must be kept on a lead and under control nearby to our courses. Spectators with unruly or noisy dogs will be asked to leave the area if they are upsetting other customers. Please be aware and respectful that not everyone is fond of dogs. Please also clean up after your dog and use the bins provided by our landlords.

Whilst we love dogs, unfortunately they can’t take part in your activity with you, and we’re not able to look after them whilst you’re on the course or Segwaying through the forest. You will need to arrange adequate supervision for them.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome into the Nets Adventure area for supervising adults. Please be aware that this is an enclosed space and respectful that not everyone likes dogs.

Do I need a head torch for a Sundown Session?

A torch will be helpful for making your way from the car park to the cabin and for making your way to the toilets. It does not need to be a head torch, the torch on your phone will suffice. You will not be required to use it on the course.
  • Birthday Parties

Can I book a birthday party?

Of course! We would love to help you celebrate. You can book your activity online, there is an option to add party bags which will be ready for you to collect on arrival or when you finish your adventure, if you prefer. If there are not enough spaces available in one session, please book more spaces in the subsequent session and you will then be able to go round the course together.

All of our locations have picnic benches around the forest or somewhere you can put a blanket to enjoy a birthday cake or a picnic with your group. Some of our locations have a forest shelter which you can hire for an hour by calling 01603 895500.

Can I book at the site?

Pre booking a birthday celebration is essential. You can book your activity and additional extras including party bags and gloves online. If you would like to add a forest shelter (a wooden gazebo with picnic benches to offer some shelter) you will need to give our booking team a call on 01603 895500.

Can I book a Forest Shelter?

Outdoor shelters are open and available to book by calling 01603 895500.

    Can we bring spectators?

Of course, we encourage you to share your adventure. Please be courteous of others and we just ask that you continue to be proactive with social distancing. If an area does get busy, spectators may be asked to move away from the activity slightly but they will still be able to cheer you on.

Do you have party invites available?

You will find free party invites available in a PDF format on our birthday party page.

How long is my party booking for?

If you are booking Treetop Adventure or Adventure+ your party will be in the trees for 1 hour. If you have a Nets Adventure booking then you will be on the Nets for 2 hours.

If you have booked the forest shelter, you get an hour in addition to your activity. Please book a time slot before or after your adventure to secure a sheltered spot if you are bringing a picnic or birthday cake, by calling 01603 895500.

My gift voucher expired during lockdown. Can I still use it?

No problem, any gift voucher that expired before the end of March has been extended automatically for another 6 months. Please use the existing gift voucher code to make your booking online.

If you have any problems using your voucher, please give us a call on 01603 895500 with a date in mind that you'd like to book and we will book your adventure for you.

If your voucher is due to expire soon, we are being extra flexible given the circumstances and we are allowing forward bookings. This means you don’t have to visit us before the expiry date, you just need to make your booking. You can book online for any time throughout our 2021 season.

What if the weather is bad, will my party still go ahead?

Go Ape is an excellent wet weather activity. Our courses are substantially sheltered from rain and wind by the trees themselves so as long as you’re appropriately dressed for the weather you should still have great memories of your experience. The course remains open in all weathers, except thick ice, thunderstorms and gales. Rain makes the course muddier than usual – which can add to the fun, but you might want dry clothes to change into for the journey home.

If we have to close for unsafe weather conditions, we will contact you to reschedule your adventure or offer a refund. If the weather is unsafe on the day we will update social media at the earliest opportunity to try and inform people before they leave home. We will also set about calling every customer with a booking, so please leave your contact number when making a new booking.

Are you able to provide food for birthday parties?

No but you are welcome to bring your own food for the party if you have an existing Forest Shelter booking.

What supervision is required for a birthday party?

Supervision rules and participant restrictions vary depending on the adventure you choose and the Go Ape location. Check out our Locations page and click through to the site you wish to visit. Then when you click through on your chosen adventure you’ll find the information you need.
