Rated 4 Bananas Andy - Tree Top Junior, on 28 July 2014
Hi there. Having given great feedback after my last visit, I'm afraid I haven't got such great news this time.Having rebooked my two youngsters from Saturday 26th (the previous day, which we couldn't make thanks to an accident on the motorway) onto Tree Top Juniors at 12:15pm yesterday, the boys' fun - along with the fun of up to 20 other children - was terribly badly affected by two children ahead of them who froze. The first problem was efficiently dealt with in less than 5 minutes (by Zoe) who went straight up and coaxed the youngster past the problem. However, almost imediately after this another child froze when it was her turn on the zipwire. And this is where the trouble really began, because - instead of moving the child to one side while they dealt with her nerves - the team left her attached to the main wire while they tried repeatedly (and unsuccessfully) to talk her down. This meant that because overtaking's impossible, every successive child then got backed up in a long and growing behind. This had the effect that - after nearly 20 minutes of coaxing and trying every trick in the book - almost every single child up on the course there had become part of the backlog: there was almost nobody left out on the three different loops! While their patience with this one little girl does the team's professionalism great credit, this is not a 1:1 situation so as a commercial and practical procedure it's a disaster. Indeed, there appeared to have been either (a) little/no thought given to alternative strategies for coping with what must be a very common occurrence, or (b) such strategies were simply ditched here in favour of a far-too-patient approach. Is it really that difficut to have a simple U-shaped 'holding' loop or wire attached to each of the main platform trunks for the staff to use in such circumstances, and then to set a reasonable time limit for making the switch from main wire to holding wire? For me, the problem was doubly irritating because small kids handle boredom poorly and, having been round only one loop (time taken: 5 mintues), then spending time behind the first 'freeze' (time taken: 5 minutes) and then even more in the jam for the zipwire (time taken: 20 minutes), my two had gone almost niowhere in the half an hour they'd been up there and refused point-blank to go up again. Which means they each spent just 5 minutes moving forward on the wires. This is NOT good value for tickets that cost £17 each!Would be interested to understand what, exactly, is supposed to happen in these situations, and how your teams are briefed to deal with the problem.Kind regards,ANDY BAKER
