Within a short drive of Reading, Farnborough, Maidenhead and Slough it’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle for a day out in Berkshire. We recommend arriving early for a day out at Go Ape Bracknell, not just to appreciate the beauty of forest but because this corner of Berkshire is packed full of adventure for a day out to remember.

Having soaked up the atmosphere of the forest now it’s time to play in it! After a safety brief from our friendly instructors you’ll climb your way up rope ladders into the canopy as you embark on our Treetop Challenge. Designed for adults and teenagers it’s the crucible of Go Ape high ropes experiences. The platforms are connected by a series of crossings, each varying in difficulty. Some are there to build your confidence and enhance the joy of journeying through the treetops, others put your strength, balance and coordination to the test. Will you lead the way and show others how it’s done or hang back and learn from their efforts? Each site is punctuated with an epic zip wire ride just waiting to put a smile on your face, and you mustn’t miss out on the dual Tarzan Swings! Scream side by side as you take a deep breath and step off the platform in tandem before swinging into giant cargo nets.
Treetops ticked off your day out to do list, now it’s time to explore the forest floor, and what better way to do than by Segway? Your hour-long Forest Segway experience begins with some time alongside our instructors getting familiar with the machines. They then lead you out into the forest in convoy before letting you loose on our exclusive trails. Start easy and build your confidence as you master the self-balancing Segways, before putting your new skills to the test on the more challenging routes. There’s nothing quite like riding a Segway and this corner of Berkshire is a stunning location to make this special experience a part of your day out.
For younger children Go Ape Bracknell comes complete with a Treetop Adventure course for explorers over 1 metre to get their adventure fix. Older children over 1.2 metres will love the Treetop Adventure+ extension where they can take on more challenging crossings and enjoy the thrill of a longer zip wire ride.
Swinley Forest is a cyclist’s paradise. Bring your own bike or hire one from the bike hub and then hit the trails on the graded routes. Those after a leisurely pedal should opt for the green route. The relatively flat mile long circuit is a fantastic way to appreciate the woodland, and make sure to keep an eye out for some of the rare bird species that make their home within it. More experienced riders with at least a hardtail (front suspension) can enjoy the thrills of the undulating blue (intermediate) and red (difficult) single track routes that cut their way through the pines and include berms and drop-offs.
If that all sounds a bit too energetic after a morning at Go Ape then enjoying the forest on foot is also an option by following one of scenic walking routes. If you’ve brought a picnic then find a secluded spot amongst the pines and silver birches to enjoy your meal. It’s such a great way to stop amongst nature and take-in the beauty of your surroundings. There’s also a coffee shop on site to grab that essential caffeine fix and a sweet treat to get you through the afternoon.
Families with children should make sure that they leave time to visit the Look Out Discovery Centre. Aimed at under 12s the centre is split into 5 themed zones incorporating 90 hands on science activities. Children can dam a stream, make an animation and even launch a hydrogen fuelled rocket. The centre gets it’s name from the 22 metre tall lookout tower that visitors can scale to gain an awesome appreciation of the forest and surrounding area. Children will be sure to spot the play area below that incorporates an inclusive area alongside the equipment for infant and junior children. Please visit the centre website for the latest information about availability and special events.
