FOREST OF DEAN, BEECHENHURST

The ancient Forest of Dean is one of the few remaining royal forests in England. It’s mystical, magical settings were inspiration for the Tolkien book so you can expect something special as you explore from your Treetop Adventure vantage point.

This is a forest designed for family fun - you’ll need a day to discover all it has to offer. Walk, run or cycle – there are routes for all eventualities.

Discover the famous Sculpture trail which is a four mile long walk, featuring sculptures created by artists to interpret the Forest environment and the history of this very unusual landscape.

Head to Beechenhurst Lodge Visitor Centre once you’ve worked up an appetite.

There’s a café, children’s play area and a climbing tower.

If you’re still up for more exploring once you've left the site at Beechenhurst there’s a secret world beneath the forest at Clearwell Caves.

With nine show caverns there plenty of exciting things to discover.

You can also sit back and relax as you enjoy a steam train ride through the forest on the Dean Forest Railway.

At Forest of Dean you will find our Adventure, Challenge and Segway activities, these are split over two sites which are 15 minutes apart. Forest of Dean Beechenhurst is home to Treetop Adventure while Forest of Dean Mallards Pike offers Treetop Challenge and Segway.

Know Before You Go

  • Wear sensible clothes for adventure.
  • Footwear must be sturdy and suitable for the outdoors. No sandals, slip off shoes, open toes or heels.
  • Gloves are a good idea. Either bring a pair or you can buy them at the cabin on the day.

Make A Day of It

  • Head into the wider forest and discover the activities and hidden objects inside the local three giant maize mazes.
  • Jump abroad a steam train and unwind on the Dean Forest Railway.
  • Head over to Puzzlewood, the enchanting, ancient woodland.
  • The staff were very friendly and we had a brilliant day for my boyfriends birthday. As it’s half term we expected it to be busy but it was well controlled and you weren’t rushed around the course, you could complete it under your own steam which we liked. Would definitely come again and recommend it!

  • I really enjoyed my experience of Go Ape, as a 50+ Year old grandmother I must admit I did have to push myself through a few fear barriers but once I did the fun factor kicked in, my 14 year old daughter and her friend made it look easier than I did but I’m very proud of myself for finishing all 5 courses thank you Go Ape.

  • fantastic . Two teenagers who were shown professionally how to use different safety gear .well informed . They were nervous at start but finished confidently. So much so said couldn’t wait to come back. As spectators we were able to follow underneath as they did the course . A pleasant walk even with a wheelchair . Instructor was fab shouting encouragement at every stage . Absolutely brilliant day and would recommend all ages although there is another course for younger ones at another destination. Going to try the segways next . Thankyou go ape
