Visit Go Ape at Sherwood Pines and you'll find yourself in 3,000 acres of beautiful woodland. Swinging through the treetops you'll quickly escape into the greenest of worlds.

In Robin Hood country your tribe of gorillas, baboons and tiny Tarzans will be faced with treetop crossings, high wires and zip wires. The Sherwood Pines course also offers those with a sense of adventure one of the only tree-to-tree zip wires in the country. Needless to say, each challenge is epic and as thrilling as the next. Sherwood Forest

It wouldn't seem right to come to Sherwood Pines without paying a visit to the world-famous Sherwood Forest too. The forest is full of legend, adventure and romance and the tale of Robin Hood will capture the imagination of you and your cheeky monkeys alike. Sherwood Forest dates back to the 13th century when it covered 7,800 acres. Today, 450 acres of this ancient forest is preserved with its most famous attraction being the Major Oak. Legend has it that this was Robin Hood's hideout, and at more than 100-years old this is not one for climbing.

WHAT TO DO?

Gruffalo Activity Trail

You don't have to go far to find something to keep little ones happy. Sherwood Pines Forest Park is currently home to a Gruffalo Activity Trail, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the book. Older kids might be keen to explore the forest at ground level by Segway, bike or on foot. There are four family cycle trails and various cross country mountain trails to explore. Whatever you choose as your mode of transport, the area offers great scenery and peaceful surroundings.

WHERE TO EAT?

Madhatters

Head south and you will find a truly family-friendly restaurant in Kimberley. Madhatters, as the name would suggest, is a tearoom with a really magical feel. With its vibrant atmosphere and delicious food, you and your tribe can't go wrong. Food is simple and wholesome, with baguettes, pittas, jackets and daily specials on the menu at lunch, as well as afternoon tea served well, in the afternoon. It was also named 'best child-friendly eatery in Notts' in 2013.

AND SOMETHING FOR A RAINY DAY?

Green's Windmill

Open come rain or shine, Go Ape is an all-weather activity. The treetop canopy provides great shelter from the rain and in the right gear you'll hardly even notice the weather. You might also want to check out Green's Windmill in Sneinton. Built in 1807, today this working mill is a popular museum and science centre. You can test your brain power and try the interactive activities, exploring the world of electricity, light and magnetism. Science AND nature days out don't get much better, do they? Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, admission is free.
