Thetford Forest

Where the Go Ape story first began in 2002 and now the one, two, three of forest fun with a Treetop Challenge, a Treetop Adventure and Forest Segways. Thetford Forest is a great course for holding a surprise party or event. Cleverly designed in a horseshoe shape, the fun unfurls as you navigate your way along the treetop crossings. The dual course nature of this forest location and the new slackline crossing means you can dial up the challenge or keep it sure but steady.

go ape adventures at thetford forest

here's where it all began!

The long, windy drive deep into the centre of the forest sets the scene for this Go Ape location. Tall trees and dense forest provide an ever-changing seasonal backdrop and if you come in summer, the Rhododendrons are a striking sight.

This stunning location in Thetford Forest has loads to offer for both the thrill seekers and the ‘need to get the family out and about seekers’. If you’re one of the former and enjoy going off the beaten bike track then head for the bike trails – there’s one which is described as having ‘severe, challenging and extremely difficult features!’

There are also a number of other cycling routes more suited to family riding, plus running and orienteering routes.

You can perfect your aim by giving Lookout Archery a go, or take things back to basics on a bushcraft survival course (Back to Wilderness).

Children get a big look in at Thetford which is famous for its free adventurous play facilities – there are giant swings, pyramids, a treehouse and they can bang out music of their own making on the Sound Trail.

how to get here

things to do in thetford

know before you go

  • Wear sensible clothes for adventure.
  • Footwear must be sturdy and suitable for the outdoors. No sandals, slip off shoes, open toes or heels.
  • Gloves are a good idea. Either bring a pair or you can buy them at the cabin on the day.

make a day of it

  • Bring a picnic or grab a bite to eat at the café.

  • Hire some bikes and head out on one of the cycle trails
  • Put the families map reading skills to test on the Gruffalo Orienteering trail.
  • After initial glitch in the computer system (the payment went through, but booking didn’t exsist), we had great time. Our instructor, Hannah, was very good. My two sons, especially the younger one, enjoyed totally!

  • The facilities and instructors were great. The only downside is when you get stuck behind a child who freezes which slows you down. The instructors do clock watch and let you go through again but when you know you could have got a lot more out of it.

    Rachel Matthews

  • Great day out. Safe adventure at heights with my friends, woodland walks and open space to have a kick about.

    Mr Keith Butler

  • Decent amount of time taken for the price. No-one trying to rush you along either. We had a good 3 hours taking our time, only downside is the price of parking.
