An Interview with Stewart Deards, Go Ape Dalkeith Country Park’s Site Manager

Exciting News! On Saturday 10th July Go Ape Dalkeith, Edinbrugh will open it’s Forest doors to ALL forest adventurers!

Dalkeith Country Park is our FIRST EVER Go Ape Scottish site with tree top adventures for under 10s and we can’t wait to share our family-friendly treetops experience!

Dalkeith lies just 30 minutes from Edinburgh – though you wouldn’t think it from the gorgeous scenery!

To give you the inside scoop we sat down with the Go Ape Dalkeith, Edinburgh Site Manager, Stewart Deards.

Stew is certainly no stranger to Go Ape having already worked at Go Ape Leeds Castle, Go Ape Beecraigs (Linlithgow), Go Ape Peebles and as a “buddy manager” at Go Ape Aberfoyle and Go Ape Grizedale – as well as taking time for some other career adventures in between. In total he has over 10 years in experience and we’re sure Dalkeith will thrive in his capable hands!

Without further ado, here’s Stew.

Go Ape Dalkeith, Edinburgh site construction

How does it feel to help build a site from the very beginning?

It’s a great feeling to watch a site grow from the first spade all the way through the staffing process. Though it is has also been a lot of work – especially under COVID restrictions.

Every member of our team from our amazing building company, Altus, to the eager new starters have worked so hard to get every ready on schedule for an amazing summer!

Are there any stand out features about Dalkeith Country Park?

The stand-out feature at Dalkeith has to be that it’s the first Scottish site to offer the Go Ape Treetop Adventure and Treetop Adventure Plus! It’s such a huge bonus that means we can welcome families with children under 10 and open their eyes to new and exciting experiences.

What is unique about Go Ape Dalkeith Country Park?

There will be so much that is unique about Go Ape Dalkeith as no two Go Ape's are the same!

Dalkeith is one of the few Go Ape sites with zip lines over the water. Travelling over water is an incredible  feeling and we have over 10 zip lines on the course with many of them criss-crossing the river, making the views, forest sounds and experience that much better!

What else is there for customers to enjoy at Dalkeith Country Park?

Dalkeith Country Park is a fantastic day out for the family. There's plenty of beautiful walking trails to explore and I would recommend spending time at Fort Douglas Adventure Park if you have a young family. Pre-booking is required though.

The Kitchen at The Restoration Yard is a lovely place for a bite to eat too.

The parking is only £3 for the day and families can easily spend a whole day enjoying the countryside after a visit to Go Ape Dalkeith, Edinburgh!

Best of luck to Stew and the team and please say hello to them in the cabin on your next Go Ape Adventure!
