How to Prepare for Your Go Ape Visit

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably booked your Go Ape adventure (or are just about to!) and can’t wait to get into the trees. To help you make the most of your day, here are our top tips for preparing for your visit — from what to wear to what to bring.

Just a quick note: you can’t take bags or loose items on our activities, but you’re welcome to leave belongings in your car or at the Go Ape cabin. If you need to add or remove a layer mid-session, ask one of our instructors to re-fit your harness before heading back into the trees.

1. Complete Your Risk Acknowledgement Form

Adventure comes with a bit of risk — that’s part of the fun! Every participant must complete a Risk Acknowledgement Form before taking part.

The booking holder will receive a link to this by email, so make sure it’s completed before you arrive.

2. Dress in Layers

British weather has a mind of its own. Bring a fleece and a few extra layers — you can always leave them in your car if it’s warm. If you get a little muddy, think of it as your forest badge of honour!

3. Wear Sensible Shoes

Closed-toe, secure shoes are a must. No heels, Crocs, sandals, slip-offs, or flip-flops. Your footwear should protect your toes and heels and stay firmly on your feet while you’re climbing, swinging, and zipping.

4. Pack a Waterproof

Even if the forecast looks good, a sudden shower can appear out of nowhere. Bring a lightweight mac or waterproof jacket just in case. If you pop back to grab it mid-session, an instructor can help re-fit your harness.

5. Bring Gloves (and Winter Warmers if Needed)

Gloves make gripping ropes and ladders far more comfortable. If it’s chilly, pack a hat and warm layers — or pick up a pair of gloves from the Go Ape cabin when you arrive.

6. Don’t Forget Sunglasses

Whether it’s bright sunshine or a dusty forest trail, sunglasses can make your adventure more comfortable — especially on our Forest Segway experiences.

7. Bring Food and Water

You’ll work up an appetite, so bring snacks and a reusable water bottle. Many of our sites are part of the Refill.org scheme — just pop into the cabin for a top-up. Forgot your bottle? Grab a reusable Go Ape one on-site.

8. Explore Beyond the Trees

Your adventure doesn’t have to end when you’re unclipped. Our locations are surrounded by beautiful woodlands, walking trails, and family attractions. Make a day of it and keep the adventure going with your favourite people.

9. Research the Local Area

Each Go Ape site has its own charm — from mountain views to lakeside trails. Check out local picnic spots, walking routes, or nearby cafés to enjoy after your activity.

10. Bring Change and a Card for Parking

Parking options vary between locations — some accept cash, others card only. Bring both to be safe.
You’ll find details on parking and facilities in the “Location Overview” section of each location page.

Whether you’re swinging through the trees, gliding on a Segway, or joining your tribe on the forest floor, preparation makes all the difference. Follow these tips and you’ll arrive ready for adventure — and ready to make memories you won’t forget.
