Looking Ahead to 2021

New Go Ape adventures are coming to a forest near you

This time last year things were getting increasingly concerning when it came to Coronavirus, little did we know what 2020 would have in store for us. Fast-forward a year and we’re in lockdown again, but there is hope on the horizon, so much to enjoy from the forest floor and exciting new things coming in 2021.

Read on as we cap off 2020, celebrate the season and look forward to some exciting new stuff in the pipeline.

2020

Go Ape Founders Celebrate 18th Birthday

Go Ape founders Tristram and Rebecca Mayhew celebrate our 18th birthday at our first ever location in Thetford Forest.

Amongst the rubbish bits some good stuff happened in 2020 too. For starters we turned 18, adulthood officially, but if you’re expecting us to act all grown up now don’t hold your breath. 18 years of living life adventurously and we're still the UK's number 1 adventure company where you can be home in time for tea. We were planning a bit of a birthday bash, but the rule of 6 became a thing so we had a low-key non-event and stuffed our faces with cake instead.

We also welcomed our 10 millionth customer, that certainly makes us feel a bit older. A lovely chap called Chris was the lucky bloke when he swung by back in September. We surprised him with a special certificate, some Go Ape swag and a bag of woodchip to mark the occasion.

Finally, when we could be open in 2020, more of you lovely lot than ever chose to join us for an adventure. There were literally record-breaking days, lots of smiles and many new faces. First timer or seasoned member of the tribe, we loved welcoming you all.

More Go Ape sessions in the dark took place than ever before too, and you can be sure our Sundown Sessions will be back in 2021. Shout out to our team that did a brilliant job of making adventures happen with all the new bits and regulations. We’re now all pros at fitting a harness wearing a face shield fogged up from the inside.

We Love Winter

It’s a bit gutting not to be up in the trees at this time of year. We love that feeling of zipping through the cold winter air, views of the forest dusted with snow and the reward of a warm cuppa at the end.

None the less we’ve still been enjoying the forest form the ground. The forest at this time of year is so changeable; one day it’s dry and crisp with big blue skies, the next there’s an eery mist that hangs about the trees. That’s not to mention the sunrises and sunsets, absolutely stunning! Check out some of the photos from our tribe below and wherever you’re locked down, get out and enjoy a bit of winter before you have to wait another year.

New For 2021

It's time to talk about some cool new stuff coming to a forest near you in 2021.

First up Treetop Adventure+. This is the extension to our Treetop Adventure experience for kiddos over 6 years and 1.2m to go higher into the trees, take on trickier crossings and ride an ever longer zip wire. In addition to the 8 locations we have already, when we re-open after the current lockdown Treetop Adventure+ will be launching at 5 new locations: Alice Holt (Hampshire), Battersea (London), Delamere (Cheshire), Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire) and Thetford (Norfolk). So if you enjoyed Treetop Adventure in 2020 and you're ready for something more challenging then Treetop Adventure+ is the one for you. Treetop Adventure+ will now be available at 13 locations in England.

Moving onto Scotland; Go Ape Aberfoyle (Trossachs NP) begins with a zip wire over 300m that takes you over a valley and above a waterfall just to get to your first Treetop crossing, but this year you'll be able to race across the valley with a friend as we introduce a second zip wire so you can take in the views or just scream at your buddy as you race many metres above the valley floor.

Remaining with Scotland, something really big is coming in the Edinburgh area, in fact it's a first for Go Ape in Scotland. We’ll save the full reveal for another time but let’s just say there will be an adventure for everyone north of the border for the very first time.

If that wasn’t enough keep an eye out for Axe Throwing launching at 7 locations, a new Nets Adventure, Mini Land Rovers for the first time ever and Challenge+, an option for an even more adventurous experience to really test your limits.

We’ll leave it there for now but let us finish by wishing you a super 2021 full of adventure, we can't wait to welcome you back when we're able to.
