pride in our tribe

Creating adventures and encouraging everyone to live life more adventurously is our bread and butter here at Go Ape. It’s the reason we do what we do. And it starts with making everyone feel welcome, from our co-owners to our customers.

Being part of our team

Our co-owners are truly what make us special. They're what make us stand out from the crowd. Scattered across the UK in every pocket. Each with their own quirks. Each with their own differences. Life would be SO dull if everyone was the same right?

That's why we want to do everything in our power to be an inclusive and diverse bunch here at Go Ape. An environment with total freedom to be you. Without judgement. Without prejudice.

We want our team to grab life as the extraordinary adventure it is. And we're determined to make sure everyone has an equal chance. To be able to express themselves. To thrive. To be brave. No matter who they are, where they're from or what adventurous path they take.

People are at the heart of what we do. It’s central to the Go Ape experience – that sense of ‘Tribe’. It’s a foundation that we continue to build and a community that we consciously want to grow. It’s a group of like-minded folk who look after each other and our beautiful planet.

Go Ape is about creating meaningful connections. Memories. Experiences. All that will enhance and enrich people’s lives. And our people play a huge part in that. That’s why we're serious about every single one of them. Our extraordinary team. Our co-owners. Our Tribe.

Taking action

Celebrating Pride

We’re proud to celebrate Pride every year. Not just for a month, but every day of the year. We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the great outdoors, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Since June 2023, the LGBTQIA+ flag has been displayed in all Go Ape cabin windows. Everyone is welcome, all the time. We will continue to have conversations with our LGBTQIA+ community to understand what is important to them and how we can improve.

Culture

In 2020, we relaxed our dress code with no uniform in support functions, so everyone can turn up to work in whatever attire makes them feel comfortable. Yes, that even means PJs and slippers. In 2021, we included the voluntary addition of preferred pronouns to email signatures. We also launched our first diversity monitoring survey to build a more accurate picture of the makeup of our teams at Go Ape. In 2023, we partnered with an external EDI consultant to help us evaluate our existing culture and prioritise changes we need to make. We also included the voluntary addition of preferred pronouns to our shiny-new name badges. Each year in June we conduct our annual EDI monitoring to measure our progress and see where we need to focus our efforts.

Resources and training

In 2021, we created an internal learning library updated with an EDI section. In 2022, we had EDI training for all co-owners at Go Ape and created a well-being hub full of content and resources.

In 2023, we enhanced the EDI matters section on our website to make our internal thinking and policies around the subject visible and clear to our co-owners, potential co-owners and customers.

In 2025, we’re creating internal support networks for various groups, including our LGBTQIA+ community.

What more can we do?

We know that there is still a lot of work to be done to create a truly inclusive world. That's why we are committed to having uncomfortable conversations and fostering ongoing reflection to raise awareness and improve.

If you have feedback on ways we can be a more welcoming space, please do share it with us.
