Picture this scene. You’re winding along a tree-lined avenue on a Forest Segway, wind in your face and sun on your skin. Cruising and content, you’re treating yourself to a solo date.
Never heard of a solo date? Well, here’s everything you need to know.
A solo date is simply a type of date, the key difference, you’re on your own. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you like, the main thing is that you spend some quality time with Y-O-U.
Whether you want to treat yourself to a chilled-out evening, a cinema trip, an adventure (that’s got our vote), a solo date is the chance for you to do something completely for yourself. There’s no need to people please, no awkwardness silences, no bill dances.
The trend of solo dating has skyrocketed in popularity across all age groups, with some suggesting that it may be the most romantic act of all.
It’s funny but the word, “alone”, has almost become negative. Many people naturally associate being “alone”, with being “lonely”, but these are not the same thing. There are so many benefits to going out on a solo date and getting to know yourself – for both single and partnered people.
What we know and feel about ourselves is not solely based on facts. Our perceptions are shaped by our experiences, environment and the things that we have been told about ourselves. Spending time solo allows us to be curious and take the time to learn more.
Not only that, spending time alone, can help us to grow emotionally. Many dread the thought of eating dinner or going for a day out alone for fear of judgement from others. But why should we care what others think?
Regularly treating yourself to a solo date (maybe around once a month) can help to develop your confidence and, in turn, your self-awareness and self-esteem. Developing a better understanding and appreciation of yourself can be great for your stress levels and overall happiness. On a solo date you can go wherever you want and do whatever you please without waiting on anyone or anything!
So, you’re committed to treating yourself to a solo date. The only question now… what do you do? Well, here are some suggestions for all personality types and budgets:
We spend so much time connected to each other: busy, distracted and wrapped up in other worlds, a solo date is the perfect way to re-centre yourself. Don’t worry if it doesn’t come easy straight away, self-love and awareness are complicated skills and take time to master. A solo date is simply a chance to treat yourself, you deserve it.
