17 Years Of Pantone Colour Of The Year... What's Your Favourite?
You may have seem that the 2017 Pantone Colour of the Year is the wonderfully dubbed 'Greenery' or to be more precise PANTONE 15-0343.
But did you know the Pantone Colour of the year has existed since 2000?
That's right, there have been 17 glorious colours that have taken the prestigious title, "but why?" we hear you ask? The Pantone Colour Institute upholds that colour "has always been an integral part of how a culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times." - and what better way to set the tone for a new year than a newly assigned celebratory colour.
How does Pantone decide on a Colour of the Year?
The Pantone Colour Institute meets with representatives from various nations colour standards groups in secret (!) twice a year, where after two days of discussion they decide on a colour for the following year.
Each chosen colour is said to be a visual portrayal of the zeitgeist, connecting with the ideas, beliefs and spirit of a particular period of history.
Say hello to 'Greenery'
Rejuvenation, restoration and renewed energy all sound pretty good right? Well these are the themes behind Greenery.
Symbolic of new beginnings, Pantone's executive director Leatrice Eiseman puts it this way:
"Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.
"The tangy yellow-green speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy, said Leatrice.
It's a fresh shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, Greenery's fresh and zesty yellow-green envelops the notion to breathe, reinvigorate and appreciate the great outdoors. And, it won't be long before our leafy hideouts across the UK will be engulfed in this fashionable filter.
