ON TWO WHEELS OR TO THE TREES?

Spanning three counties – Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire – this area of the Forest of Dean is steeped in history. Once King Henry VIII’s hunting ground, its mystical, magical settings even inspired Tolkien’s writing. So, expect big views and something a little bit special.

Take a peaceful stroll around the scenic Mallards Pike Lake, and stop off at the café for a bite to eat or a well-earned drink.

Make the most of your visit – there are a number of walking trails to enjoy and a family-friendly cycling route that connects to the Colliers Trail. If you’re looking for more challenging mountain biking routes, head to the Forest of Dean Cycle Centre.

If you’re still up for more exploring once you've left Mallards Pike, visit nearby Wenchford – a beautiful picnic spot that’s perfect for paddling on a hot summer’s day.
