Head For The Forest And Find Your Adventure

This week we caught up with the lovely folk at Forest Holidays to get their top tips for finding adventure this summer at their cabins across the UK. Here's what they had to say:

"The summer holidays are here and at Forest Holidays there are so many exciting adventures to share, from mountain climbing to river canoeing to forest survival. Are you ready for your summer adventure?

Rivers and Lochs

How about gorge walking along the River Croe near our Ardgartan Argyll cabins in Scotland? This exhilarating activity takes you down natural flumes into clear pools and through waterfalls. Expect to get very, very wet. Closer to home, and considerably more peaceful, your cabin is on the shores of Loch Long where fishing for mackerel is ideal at this time of year.

Down at the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, the mighty river Wye is the perfect place for canoeing, whether it's a serene sightseeing trip or a thrilling ride through the rapids.

Mountains and Moors

At Strathyre cabins the adventures are more land-based. You are at the Gateway to the Trossachs, where climbing, abseiling and hill walking are the top activities. Strathyre is at the base of Ben Ledi, which, at 867m, is an achievable challenge with dramatic views as your reward.

Further south in Yorkshire, Cropton and Keldy are on the edge of the North York Moors, a stunning natural landscape. Here dramatic outcrops deliver breath-taking views; none more arresting that that from Roseberry Topping, which is another tough but rewarding climb.

Fields and Meadows

A more gentle approach to outdoor adventure can be found in the fields and meadows that surround our Forest locations. Pack your picnic hamper, bring the camping chairs and the cricket set and head for an open forest glade. Here you can spend an afternoon of shared pleasure with friends or family.

Some of our locations have a more open aspect on the edge of the forest. Stargazing under a summer night's sky is the sort of outdoor adventure that builds and builds as the full glory of the night's sky gradually reveals itself. We have a strict "no light pollution policy and the Forest of Dean, Thorpe Forest and Cropton all have cabins in a meadow setting to make the most of the stargazing opportunity.

Fun in the forest

At the heart of it all is the forest. Acres and acres of Forestry Commission woodland where the only limit to your adventures is your energy and imagination.

Meet the Forest Ranger who will take you on late-night expeditions, complete with special night vision glasses. Look out for badgers, deer, owls and, in the Forest of Dean, even wild boar! Or learn forest survival skills, so if you ever find yourself on the adventure of a lifetime, sleeping under the stars, you will know how to build a shelter, forage for food and light a fire.

And don't forget, every Forest Holiday location is close to a Go Ape, so take the tribe swinging through the trees for the ultimate forest adventure.

There are so many adventures to share on a Forest Holiday simply because the Great British outdoors has so much to offer. Enjoy your summer and #shareadventure."
