The Goliath of Outdoor Adventure

Set in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Grizedale Forest offers an unrivalled day out with four unparalled experiences to let loose on. Tree Top Adventure will test the nerve of the fearless with its mix of high rope crossings and massive zip wires. Oh, and if zip wires are your thing, breathe in the fresh forest air as you fly zip-to-zip over 3km with our Zip Trekking Adventure.

Kids can get a slice of the action on Tree Top Junior, our high ropes course designed to leave them with monkey-sized grins on their faces (grown ups welcome too!). Plus, for those who'd rather keep closer to the ground, whizz through the Douglas Firs on all-terrain Segways. Trust us, you'll leave a day out in Grizedale Forest with the adventure bug. But don't worry every Go Ape is different and just an hour down the road is our wonderful Whinlatter course.

Tree Top Adventure

Set in a forest of sky-scraping Douglas Firs, our high ropes course in Grizedale Forest feels seriously high, mainly due to its vertigo-inducing 19 metre platforms. The two-three hour activity features free-fall Tarzan swings and mega obstacles to challenge your inner daredevil. What's more our South Lakes adventure features two Zip Wires which fly over the road below - will you let go and give us a wave on the way down?

Life at Grizedale

Located to the east of Coniston Water and to the south of Hawkshead lies Grizedale Forest. The Lake District is a hub of things to do with a vast range of activities to spend the whole day out among the trees. Please allow plenty of time to get to Go Ape Grizedale. Roads get very busy in the Lakes so we’d advise you to allow some extra time!

Please note that the Windermere Car Ferry is closed until further notice, so please don't try and use the ferry as it may delay your journey. You might miss your session and this will result in the possibility of not being able to do your activity.

Due to the rural nature of our locations, postcodes are not always accurate when using sat-nav directions. Please always cross reference with a map.

Your sat nav will estimate a time of arrival based on the speed limit of the roads you are travelling. It is not possible to travel at the maximum speed on the rural roads around Grizedale so please allow an extra half an hour to take account of this.

In addition, the directions provided by standard mapping websites can be very confusing, particularly when approaching Grizedale from the South. We strongly recommend following the directions below.

Recommended route is from the south via the A590 and Newby Bridge. Follow signs to Hawkshead, past the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge and through Lakeside, up the west side of Windermere.

As you come to Hawkshead (approximately 8 miles, 20 minutes, from the A590 turn) take the small left turn signed to Grizedale next to two white cottages. If you go past a repair garage and a primary school, you have missed the turn.

Continue for three miles up over the hill and down the other side and park in Kennels car park on the right, or Hall Car Park on the left another half mile further on.

From the North get to Ambleside and follow the signs to Hawkshead and then to Grizedale, taking the small right hand turn 200yrds past the school. Continue for three miles up over the hill and down the other side and park in Kennels car park.

From Kennels Car Park, follow the large finger board signs to Go Ape. This will take you alongside the river and underneath the course itself. It will take approximately 5-7 minutes.

From Hall Car Park, walk uphill following signs for the Visitor Centre. Cross the road and enter the Courtyard. From there, we are opposite the Play Park. Approximately 5 minute walk.

Parking Charges are as follows:

Hall Car Park is now “Park with Ease (Pay on exit)"

- Up to 20 mins – Free

1st Hour - £1.80

Additional time - 45p per 20 mins,

All Day - £7.00.

Kennels Road Car Park is still a standard pay and display.
